About different blouse styles: Are your blouses the same but dyed in different colours?

A blouse is a 2-3-meter piece of fabric that can make or break the look of your saree. A well-fitted blouse made of quality fabric and sewn with perfect cuts and curves is your saree’s best friend. However, an ill-fitting blouse and imperfect cuts can ruin your entire graceful look. So, yes, you really need to put some thought into getting your blouse designed or buying a ready-made one rather than just handing an old blouse over to your tailor and asking him to make the same design in just a different colour.

Here are a few blouse designs you can go for rather than the good-old round neck to uplift the look of your saree:

  1. Collared Blouse – These high-necked designs add a splash of sophistication to your look. You can opt for Chinese, Peter Pan, ruffle, shirt, jacket-style, sherwani, or the half-collar style. To create a more party-wear or festive look, you can have embroidery done on the collar, similar to the work done on the saree. These styles will give you a classy look with minimum effort.
  2. Boat-neck Blouse – This neckline runs, front and back, almost to the shoulder points across the collarbone. Though all designs look great on everyone, this one is especially flattering on women with long necks because it draws attention to the neck. You can add embellishments to the neckline border to create a heavy look. This will help you achieve a modest and smart look.
  3. The V neckline Blouse – This blouse style is evergreen. It is simple, and most feel that this style fits them better than the others. This style suits all, as it elongates the body and draws the eyes towards the centre of the body. However, it is very flattering for short people or people with wider shoulders. You can create festive looks by choosing an embroidered sleeve or getting thin borders sewn.
  4. Square-neckline Blouse – This design is often cut wide and low. This style is flattering to most body types except for people who have a square-shaped face. This style shows off your collarbone, elongates the frame, and gives the shoulder a broader look. The square neckline style was popular in the nineteenth century and has never really gone out of style. It is timeless and trendy.
  5. Round-neck Blouse – This is the safest and most common blouse design. It works for all body types and goes with every draping style. Though it’s common, it still looks great if it’s well-fitted. However, if you want to create a unique look, you can opt for trendy sleeve designs or a designer-style back design.
  6. Tops – Women have started experimenting and creating fusion looks by ditching the blouse and picking up a t-shirt from their wardrobe. You can opt for a crop top, a sweater, or a peplum top and wear it as a blouse. You can experiment all you want. You just need to have the confidence to carry off the look, and you will surely look phenomenal.

These are the basic necklines that can make your blouse look trendy, unique, and modern. Play around with these neckline ideas by adding unique sleeve or back designs. Discuss your vision with your tailor/designer, and wear blouses that make your sarees look more fashionable. It might take a while to get a grasp of the fabrics, designs, and so many other factors of getting something designed, but it does get easier after a while.
